Our great hero John Conyers, now chairman of House Judiciary, has kicked off the oversight hearings of his committee today. As Waxman(?) said, "the hardest thing will be to choose what to go after first". I imagine this is the same question all the new committee chairs have been wrestling.
Well, for Conyers, it is going to be digging in to this plethora of signing statements Bush has issued on over 1,100 laws, and to what extent any of these have been "executed".
Conyers will be our man for the inception of impeachment investigations, and I love that this is where he has chosen to start.
A paragraph which particularly delights me:
Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are beefing up their staff by hiring a special "oversight and investigative unit" of about six attorneys to lead the panel's probes of the administration. The group is headed by Elliot Mincberg , formerly the general counsel of the liberal activist group People for the American Way.
A heavy hitter, this Mincberg, and a highly competent attorney.
Nice. It is a good day.
Only hope we can get something started that can stop this nonsense about going to war with frickin' IRAN.. before it is too late!!! geebus..
