I have to confess I never did support the Iraq war. I knew Lieberman was a less than admirable Democrat in 2000 (I shit you not, no, it's true! some of us knew! No really!!!). I knew that Reagan's was not really (1) a great Republican Administration (**cough**Teddy Roosevelt**cough**), that it was fraught with some pretty bad corruptions, like selling arms to our enemies, our clearest enemies even, enemies they ran against in the election, essentially.
I knew the work of the Gang of 14, aka "The Nuclear Compromise of the Capitulating Seven" meant that the filibuster would not be used by Democrats. I said so. Can I get a free Frisbee? like a "Street Prophets" Frisbee or something? Being right on this stuff for decades has got to be going in some sort of account somewhere, right?
I knew it all.
Where is my gold star? What do I win? I'd like a tangerine or whatever you have in the way of copyright free images.
I think that Lieberman thing counts for something.
Why does no one believe when they are warned which of the conservative principles still drag us down. The basic problem is that liberal principles are taken to be charity and altruism. A person is "good" to have them, because they cost. No, they work. Building infrastructure pays off. You may lose some time, but on the scale of a nation of hundreds of millions, it ALWAYS pays off because statistically over all, investment in infrastructure does pay off. Anything that helps the health of the nation is infrastructure, and some things of course, the government helps by staying out of it.
I'm a low regulation advocate, however, I do believe in regulation. The "minimum" regulation needed in a particular area goes from "practically nothing" to "total" on a case by case basis in my opinion. The medical industry calls for higher regulation than the soda industry.
But we are told we are purists if we bring these things to the fore. Not mere tactics, but basic ideas we agree on in our policy but forget to apply. It's wonderful to see the light after supporting Reagan, or Bush, or Bush the Minor... yeehaw, hell, I like people that honestly still have not seen the light, so sure, it's great. But where is the props for those that have seen the light back to ancient times, people with enough vision to know... yes... that James Watt was not good for the environment, that in the world of Al Haig people like Rumsfeld counted as "reality based" in comparison. I knew that Lieberman would piss off more liberals than he'd get Republicans for Gore. I knew that. I confess that I know I knew that.
Is a gold star too much to ask for? Come on. (Or whatever you have in the way of copyright free images?)™
