Today just like any other day I opened my newspaper and turned to the OP-ED section. At the bottom of the page I saw a cartoon. A very UNFUNNY cartoon. One I've come to love to hate. The cartoons name is Mallard Fillmore and it is the most Conservative "comics" in syndication. I'm sure you've seen it.
Ironically, the Mallard Fillmore parody in America: The Book was in my opinion the funniest part, it was definitely the part that made me laugh out loud. Since I believe in equal time here is Mallards response to America The Book's parody.... okay I don't believe in equal time I just wanted you all to see just how "brilliant" and "hilarious" his response was. I mean you just GOTTA love that Conservative "humor."
Anyhoo if you click the link above that says "UNFUNNY" you will be taken to the cartoon in question. It features a poorly drawn Howard Dean worrying about an apparent Republican Candidate for President named Walter Williams. According the cartoon Walter Williams is experiencing a "groundswell of support" so much in fact that the head of the DNC Howard Dean is desperate to discredit him.
Not only did the Cartoon "forget to tell a joke." like Jon Stewart's hilarious book suggested, it made me and I'm sure millions of others curious who this Walter Williams was. I certainly had never heard of him. Thats when I noticed the * next to his name in the cartoon leading the reader to the E-Mail Address wwilliams@gmu.edu
The following days cartoon features and even poorer drawn Howard Dean complaining about the fact that this Walter Williams has a "paper trail" because he writes a column and thus can't "waffle" Dean then freaks out exclaiming "You can't be a politician if you're waffling challenged!"
Anyway it made me even more curious. Why two comics in a row about this guy. Stike that! Why THREE comics in a row about this guy? Well I searched Wikipedia.org for Walter Williams and I found the bastard! According to the Wiki he hasn't declared his candidacy yet. His site at the University doesn't say anything about running for President either. And a quick google turned up nothing. So much for the "Groundswell" of support!
It would appear old Mallard Fillmore is trying to use his "comic" to create some sort of "groundswell" of support for this fellow as sort of a backhanded non-endorsement endorsement. I can only assume he hopes to create some sort of a draft movement or perhaps simply get enough people to e-mail the guy so he enters voluntarily! Its kind of smart really.
Imagine you're a rightwinger who LOVES Mallard Fillmore. You read about this "groundswell" of support for a Republican you've never heard of before so you get curious (as if) and check him out on Wiki (as if).
Here is what you would see:
[Walter Williams] ..is a very popular occasional guest host of Rush Limbaugh's radio program and Lawrence Kudlow's Kudlow & Company TV program.
Williams is a champion of black education, frequently indicting the educational systems of inner city schools for perpetuating, in his words, a fraud against African-American students and families by lowered standards. Dr. Williams is also a critic of the minimum wage and affirmative action, believing that both practices are detrimental to blacks. Dr. Williams especially emphasizes his belief that racism and the legacy of slavery in the United States are overemphasized as problems faced by the black community and do not adequately explain the situation blacks face today.
Like most conservatives and libertarians, Dr. Williams criticizes gun control as endangering the innocent and failing to reduce crime.
...SNIP...
Dr. Williams has gone on record as advocating the Free State Project in at least two columns and once on television. He also believes in the right of states to secede from the union as was done in the U.S. in the 1860s and has supported or been sympathetic toward various secessionist ideas in his writings.

How could they not go for that? He's practically a black Strom Thurmond! The guy probably has millions of e-mails in his inbox. The problem is instead of having his readers e-mail Mr. Williams begging him to join the race Mallard made it sound like he already has. Thus most of the people who are writing this guy are under the false impression that he's already thrown his hat into the ring. I wonder if thats going to confuse things at all?
So there you have it. The Right wings answer to Obama. The very best they could do. Pretty sad if you ask me. If they put this old geezer who is totally out of step with the majority of Americans (let alone black Americans) up against the young and charismatic Obama they're going to get their asses handed to them. Not to mention the Republican party isn't too keen on having a black dog catcher let alone a black President. If its Williams vs Obama or even Rice vs Obama you can count on a 3rd party white guy getting a significant number of Republican votes.
So in the words of President R-Tard "Bring it on!"
