Anger, pain, violation, sins of omission, sins of commission. Folks get dropped off of a blogroll, and you get about the same reaction you'ld expect if the administration announced they were going to go ahead and divert the 20,000 soldiers slated for the Bagdahd troop surge...
to Tehran.
Is the placement and size of a blogroll really that big a deal?
No, it's not.
But what happened as we witnessed the incredible shrinking blogroll? Lots of pissed off peeps. And then the response to the response. More pissed off peeps.
Shit, Diane W even got banned for it. Was that really neccesary? And folks getting riled about MSOC's reponse? Puh-leese. What did they expect from her? A dozen pre-Valentines day roses?
She wasn't even jawwing about the actual act of the blog roll drop. She was lamenting the mindset behind it. But many folks missed that. Even if she was writing soley about the blogroll, many of the responses were just totally uncalled for.
I'm happy to see though, that a compromise has been put foward. This allows the broader community a chance to participate. It gives the once shunned little guy a chance to build a blogroll presense here. It takes a little more work than before, but if you aren't willing to do the work, do you really deserve the page hits? And the revenue that follows off of it? I would say no. In the early days, presence on the DKOS blogroll was entree into a world of recognition and possibly profit. But the blogosphere is maturing, and the tempation to create a blog just for the purpose of making a quick buck threatened the whole point of a blog roll.
It was a disservice to the likes of MSOC who did it on principle, and secondly reaps a financial benefit from it.
So to you little bloggers, looking to make a name for yourself... make a name for yourself. Contact others here, and ask them to add you to their personal blogrolls. Aim high, and see where it takes you.
But don't ask me. On priniciple, my blogroll will sit at one, and that's My Left Wing. (I'll add the Craigslist WoPo forum once the blogroll furor has died down.) And that's for two reasons. Loyalty, and loyalty.
MSOC brought me here to this site, so I'll send others back to her. Check out myleftwing.com, and you'll see an old school, inclusive blog roll. The way the DKOS blogroll USED TO BE. Secondly, I'll keep it at ONE because some over sensitive moderator here deemed that Diane W should be banned soley for the dropping of a few heated comments (beer fueled maybe? give the girl a break!!)
So until Diane W is reinstated, my blogroll sits at one.
