For some odd reason, I receive newsletters from Mel Martinez (Senator, R-FL). Usually I just glance through them, then delete. Sometimes with a sneer of disgust, sometimes with a "whatever", but this time...this time, my fine kossack brothers and sisters, I read it, followed the link, and had yet another jaw dropping moment.
Think - "Mind-boggling".
Got it?

MARTINEZ: CHAVEZ TAKING VENEZUELA DOWN WRONG PATH
February 8, 2007 -
Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) released the following statement expressing concern over recent events in Venezuela:
"I am concerned with the actions we’ve seen in recent weeks in Venezuela. The country is being taken down a path that history has shown us has no future. Simply stated, a government run by decree is a dictatorship.
"The expulsion of foreign companies is pushing away investors. Venezuela’s oil wealth should be used for investments as a benefit for the people and to encourage the creation of sound economic policies that will incite investment and growth.
"Governments around the world recognize that a balance of power among the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government is essential.
"I believe that it is in the best interest of the Venezuelan people that we continue to monitor this situation."
I was going to bold the sections I referred to as "mind-boggling", but it would have been everything but the first and last sentence.
So.
I take it as a good thing that I simply can not understand how the Republican mind works. That their Bizarro World is so foreign to me that it makes my brain hurt. But it's also scary as all hell that they are still in partial control of our government, and that their leader is still running rampant and destroying every single thing he touches.
"A government run by decree is a dictatorship." Yeah? Hellooooo! Get that cranial-rectum inversion operation, Senator Martinez, okay? Real soon.
November 2008 cannot come soon enough. I can only hope that the Democratic Party can at least mitigate some of the massive damage. Lord knows they won't be getting any help from Florida (except for that paper ballot initiative introdued by Gov. Crist, and the nationwide bills introduced by Bill Nelson and Rush Holt in the Senate and House, respectively).
Just thought I'd share this with y'all. Carry on!
