We can usually count on Colorado Senator Schultheis to let out some whoppers every once in a while such as questioning accident victims in Greeley their immigration status.
But the question is if this is just another case of Schultheis engaging his mouth before brain. See, there's a new GOP sheriff in town by the name of Wadhams. Republicans are notorious for their top-down strategy, control, and messaging. If you thought macaca, and ragheads were mere slips of the tongue, you're dreaming.
So what's he done this time?
Recently, state legislators were discussing Senate Bill 60, which would require emergency-room doctors to inform sexual-assault victims of their right to obtain emergency contraception. Schultheis, a Colorado Springs Republican, wondered how doctors "determine that a person actually did incur that sexual assault," The Denver Post reported last week.
"Are they going to take the word of that individual?" asked Schultheis. "You could see individuals coming in that just wanted to make sure that last night`s stand didn`t result in a pregnancy and basically say that they had been a sexual assault" to get the contraceptive.
Sen. Brandon Shaffer, a mild-mannered Longmont Democrat, was stunned. "I think the suggestion that a person is going to feign being raped in order to get emergency contraception is mildly insulting ... more than mildly."
Way more than mildly. As Byron R. White, a former U.S. Supreme Court Justice, once argued, "Short of homicide, [rape] is the ultimate violation of self." What sort of man thinks women would seek out an invasive and potentially humiliating sexual-assault exam just to be informed of their right to emergency contraception?
I'll answer your rhetorical question Justice White, a crazy one, that's who.
We know Colorado republicans hate it when women have control of their reproductive organs. Hell, Owens vetoed similar bills like this twice before. Guess who ran Owens' previous campaigns, Dick Wadhams. Since we know Schultheis is known for this type of stuff, this is probably more the case of Wadhams letting go of the leash a little, so Schultheis can do his usual screech. The obvious question is whether Wadhams will tug on that leash, making the monkey back away from his words, or let go and distance himself.
