Support for Obama among DKos members is small but growing. I have witness in the last couple of weeks, an increasing number of encouraging posts about Obama's candidacy. This suggests to me that we understand that a candidate must be examined under the merits of their personality and the body of their work not just GOP slander and liberal establishment bias.
Let me begin by saying that I think the work Gore has down on global warming has been nothing short of amazing. I very much admire the Clintons and strongly believe that if it were not for the Iraq war, Mrs. Clinton would make a great commander in chief. Also, I am proud of John Edwards candidacy, as an American, to be willing to shine the spotlight on those less fortunate. However, none of these potential candidates is what the good ol' United States needs right now.
We are now entering the era of Obama. The era of hope. The end of cynicism and a renewed call to freedom.
I am going to quote my own post I wrote on February 19th in response to a diary by Deena Stryker entitled Obama's Breath of Fresh Air, Hillary's Draft from the Past, and Putin's Credo as follows:
. . . the dude [Barack Obama] reinvented the feel good theme. He has the most detailed plan for getting out of Iraq. He stresses strong domestic initiatives and bringing the lost art of diplomacy back to the forefront of our foreign policy.
Look I've bit my tongue watching post after post of everyone overlooking this guy. Truth is, he is absolutely the best of the pack and what this country and the world needs right now. At the expense of being slammed by my fellow members of Dkos, I think he would bring more to the table than Al, Hil, Wes and definitely John, guaranteed. He has lead the way in how to campaign and what issues to focus on. Tell me which candidate has not followed his lead? Hitting NH first. Annoucing his exploratory campaign on the internet. Redeployment in Iraq. Universal healthcare (Hillary tried it a long time ago and was not willing to go there again until somebody else stuck there neck out first). A renewed effort on positive campaigning. Attention to Global warming (Al Gore is leading this effort, however, of the presidential contenders Obama has also made this the centerpiece of his campaign). Making Americans feel good about themselves and their country without the arrogant superiority complex introduced by the rethugs.
Their is no one who lights a fire under the electorate like he does. That is why Hillary supporters are defecting by the minute. That is why Al will not even consider stepping in. That is why Edwards gets no airtime other than to be a white male counterbalance. That is why the republicans are attacking him more than any of the other candidates when Hillary is supposedly the frontrunner. That is why liberals play the experience argument over and over again because they hate the amount of attention a non establishment candidate is getting, he is not playing by their rules. That is why everyone always says, "he is good but . . ." No buts, no racism, no garbage standards that even the most experienced candidates could not even pass. Listen to the guy. Take the time to evaluate him beyond the headlines, commentary by the MSM, the raving crowds, and the constant attacks by the establishment. You just may find your next president folks and I promise this time it is going to be the right one.
In conclusion, there is a groundswell of support building for Obama and it is not just about media sparkle and great speeches. From here on out, anyone who does not support Obama please state anything other than the tired lines being shoveled out by liberals themselves.
OBAMA'S GROWING SUPPORT
Feb. 15, 2007 - Peter Buttenwieser is hardly a household name, but among Democrats in Washington, he is revered as a kingmaker. By his own reckoning, Buttenwieser, a retired education consultant based in Philadelphia, has given more than $10 million of his own money to Democratic candidates and committees over the last decade, ranking him among the most generous donors in politics. He's also helped to raise tens of millions of dollars more by throwing fund-raisers and soliciting checks from others . . . During the 2004 campaign, Buttenwieser was one of the only political donors who contributed to all six major Democratic candidates for president, including Edwards, Howard Dean, John Kerry, Wesley Clark, Joe Lieberman and Dick Gephardt. Four years later, his name is on the call list of every major 2008 Democratic presidential contender. But Buttenwieser has taken himself off the market. He won't be sending cash to Clinton's campaign, he says, nor will he donate to his old friend Edwards. For the first time, Buttenwieser is picking just one candidate to support: Barack Obama.

"Sure, Obama is young, brilliant, handsome, charismatic ... and, yes, Sen. Biden, "clean as a whistle." But the reason why Hollywood has gone ga-ga for Obama can be summed up in one word: "Casting." [...] And it's not just a question of finding someone with "star quality," a young, handsome leading man to head your ticket. It's about blending the right candidate with the right role at the right time for our country.
[...] For now at least, Hollywood has decided that Obama for President is a case of perfect casting."
