In the larger picture, what are we seeing with regards to the netroots and the DC Dems?
Well, it isn't pretty, but look we must.
What I see is a 'blog-bending' effort using many of the same kinds of political narrative tools that politicians have used so well before "teh innertubes" became a political force.
For those of us Kossaks who have been around awhile have seen it before, both on DKos and other places, but I thought I would mention what I am seeing.
Two things today if you follow me over the jump...
Take a look at the spate of "Hillary Doesn't Need You" and "Hillary Won't Apologize" diaries. Notice how fast the response was from the moment that Kos made his first frontpage post. Suggesting an admission that Hillary made a mistake is not asking for an apology. But most of the posts have centered around the largely imaginary 'demand for an apology'.
Interesting... ever notice how a politician on TV starts talking about something else when you ask questions or want accountability?
Now to me, the most interesting thing about the Kos/Hillary dustup has been that Kos hasn't backed down ONE INCH. I'd like to read a Kos post about what kind of pressure that must be coming to bear on him. And I admire him for actually standing up and facing the DC consultancy class and the chattering Kewl Kids, man-a-W.easel.
Now, today, on somthing NOT completely different, the good old "Voice of the Corporate Political Overlords in DC" WAPO is telling us all about how the stage is being set for a confrontation between the DC Dem corporate incumbency protection racket and the netroots?
Does anybody else remember how the Right Wing Corporate Controlled Media grabbed on to the "Rahm Emmanuel won the House" meme when in all fairness the netroots had a lot to do with it?
The netroots has been taking on the real fights in close districts and the DC Incumbent Protection Service has been taking on... squashing primary challengers, and 'sure bets'. Let's remember for a moment the caterwailling when the netroots fueled a primary win against Joementum. There was the minimalist support given to Lamont by many of the DC incumbents and even Barbara Boxer and Barack Obama helped out Joementum. The result? Now 'we' are saddled with Joementum for another 6 long-ass years.
You don't think this stuff happens by accident do you?
When you contemplate the G-string soap opera that is Washington, DC when it comes to personal 'morality' by these 'moralists', what makes you think that a person who would snuggle up to a Newt Gingrich, or a Rupert Murdoch, for instance, would not plot to destroy and divide the netroots. After all it is SO IMPORTANT that they win to save us from... putting in a government that will spend its money on... us.
The corporate crocodiles who own DC are not going to give up with losing in 2006, they are already trying to bend the Dem Party to pick amongst several well-funded corporate indetured candidates and they don't want us tipping over their apple cart.
I lived in Washington, DC for a few years and I remember reading op-eds about how inflation was a good thing in the 70s!?! Yes, the WAPO is a corporate political whore that can be trusted only to be a weathervane for what the corporate owners of our government want us to know.
That is why we are reading the 'news' that is starting to be critical of Bush, but they never drive it home! They want Bush to serve out his term, and never be impeached or imprisoned while trying to walk the line between us totally ignoring them.
That is why we are reading the pish-posh making out like the prune resolutions were important. I mean why worry about actually stopping the war if you can get everybody distracted and divided over NOTHING?
Well, anyway, there it is. Now I sit back to see if I get flamed or ignored.
Lefty!!!
