John Edwards made his money and name as a hard nosed trial lawyer, which some might find distasteful, but which many kind of respect, regardless of what they may grumble. And maybe the country needs a Grishamesque, populist, crusading trial lawyer type. I honestly think he would make a good president...but he's gotta get some good political handlers on his team who are not intimidated by him and who are in touch...
Like I said, I've always liked the guy and still do. Solid dark horse third placer now...sort of like last time. In danger of becoming the charismatic Dick Gephardt (one trick pony candidate), but not too late to change.
I love his message, the two Americas thing. Well stated, accurate, resonates. I think Edwards has to change his image, though...
Remember the 04 campaign where they always put a cheshire cat smiling ohn edwards next to droopy faced (despite the botox) kerry? Started kinda creeping me out after a while...there he is, handsome boy wonder...and he never stops smiling...never. Looked like someone with one too many plastic surguries after a while.
The Chinese say that someone who smiles all the time is eiter an idiot or dishonest. They are currently training their own people to smile all the time like lying idiots for all the Americans that they expect for the upcoming Olympic games...Maybe they should show pictures of John Edwards, or have him stop in as a special guest smiley trainer?
All things come and go on TV land. Notice that? Sometimes its a rash of hospital shows, always cop stuff, a little teacher drama, and from time to time a lawyer show. Currently there are a couple of popular ones on, at least, Shark, with James Woods, and Boston Legal with Shatner and Spader. I know this sounds silly and demeaning to the American public, but politicians should wacth more mind numbing TV, I think. Especially Edwards.
Come on Johnny E...Drop the JFK/RFK smiley poos ken-doll thing and take up the sword and shield, Shark style...I think it resonates. I think the American people want to sue their government in a sense, at least those who occupy the executive branch...or prosecute them...They want a tough no bullshitter who has a good war face and is ready to crusade for all that is true and justice without being a Dudly Doright putz. Go with it, John.
But go with the James Woods thing...I...don't know...if...we're ready for...William Shatner...for president!
