Congratulations, dKos community. You bought the electability myth hook, line, and sinker. On the bright side, you'll usually end up with candidates with nice hairdos, occasional "distinguished miliary service", and lemming instincts on all the big issues of the day. And as long as they all identify themselves as democrats, you can be awfully proud of how your money and incisive blog diaries helped spur them to victory.
It's comical but sad to see how this site's founder can only say "ugh" to the one candidate who was right on Iraq all along, the one candidate who's lived in both of the "Two Americas", and the one candidate serious about universal health care.
Your gusto for bland, image-obsessed candidates who know how to raise money, craft poll-driven policies, and appeal to independents is part of the problem.
I, for one, would far prefer a leader than a follower. In 2004, Kucinich and Sharpton were the only ones leading on Iraq...Dean, Edwards, Kerry, et. al. were only distinguishable from Bush/Lieberman in the fine print. "I support the war but not how it's being run." Wow, that's bold leadership! And "I was misled by faulty intelligence. If I knew the intelligence was wrong, I wouldn't have supported the war."...well, if you were paying attention, you would have known the whole thing reeked of bullshit.
And I, for one, don't give a flying fuck whether my candidate appeals to independents or republicans. They have their own fucking candidates. The biggest block of undecideds in this country isn't independents...it's people who don't even get off their ass to vote because none of the candidates represent them.
Kucinich deserves better than an ugh. He deserves applause and support for standing up for his principles, challenging the status quo, and taking courageous stands. If you're put off by his "new age" philosophy, his diminutive stature, his "failed" mayorship, and his abortion stance, then find another candidate. But don't even pretend the ones at the top of your cattle call would be any better for America or the world. And enjoy the next several years of war, Bush, and whatever else we get electing clowns.
