It has occured to me that something that I have written about in my past introductions to dKos (Not buhdydharma's New User's Guide to dKos) I have not yet addressed in Welcome New Users.
I speak of course of the elusive "community" diary of which there were 70 self identified examples in the last 2 weeks.
What is this "community" thing?
10 of the Diaries are Top Comments. To my way of thinking the community norm is clear, what say you TC guys? 14?
dKos Open Mic and Poetry Slam: seems to be on no set schedule, which is probably as it should be. Update: cosmic debris says, "The Dkos poetry slam actually does have a regular day and time. It is every Saturday night at around 10:00 pm Eastern."
3 Diaries are Meetup Diaries, 24 are 1 offs or odd, 2 are Cheers and Jeers substitutes.
Cheers and Jeers brings up one of my questions. When Bill in Portland Maine runs it, it does not self identify, yet I consider it the epitome of a "community" diary. What is a "community" diary? Is publication on a regular basis the main criteria?
For comparison here are the 'Series' Diaries from the FAQ.
What I'd like to know is as much about as many of these things as you would care to share-
- Have you seen any diaries that belong in the list (links and schedule please)?
- What is "community"?
- What is a "community" diary?
- This is what we talk about.
- This is how we interact with each other.
- This is how we treat strangers.
- This is what we consider a disruptive influence and how we treat it.
Of course I've probably forgotten one or two good questions that I hope you'll add.
