What is it with the Republican presidential contenders and their internal documents? First it was the Giuliani campaign that lost a secret document that laid out Rudy's, "potentially "insurmountable" personal and political vulnerabilities," and now a Romney PowerPoint presentation that outlines campaign concerns has been obtained by the Boston Globe.
Here are some views of Mitt Romney causing concern inside his campaign: His hair looks too perfect, he's not a tough war time leader, and he has earned a reputation as "Slick Dancing Mitt" or "Flip-Flop Mitt."
Highlighting what a charmer Romney is, the plan calls for him to use terms such as "jihadism," and "European-style socialism" on his opponents, and to attack France, Massachusetts and Hollywood. Yawn.
And how will he try and frame John McCain and Rudy Giuliani? For McCain, it will be:
...is he "too Washington," "too close to [Democratic] Left," an "uncertain, erratic, unreliable leader in uncertain times."
That's going to be quite a trick to portray McCain as close to the Left.
As for Giuliani, he is:
...described as a one-dimensional Lone Ranger whose social views -- he supports abortion rights and civil unions for gay couples -- could destroy the "GOP brand." "We can't disqualify Dems like Hillary on social issues ever again" if Giuliani is the nominee, the document states.
Now if Mitt can only get conservative voters to forget that he too supported abortion rights and civil unions until he decided to run for President and realized that he'd need to pander his ass off.
And how does Romney intend to address the Bush issue?
Like every Republican in the race, Romney faces the delicate task of how to talk about President Bush, whom the country gives low job-approval ratings .
But the plan lists two ways Romney can set himself apart from Bush. The first says, simply, "Intelligence."
Now that's delicate. Of course, Slick Dancing Mitt isn't setting the bar too high with that one.
