Way back in November, when the Republicans controlled everything on earth, we had an election. The electorate displayed in clear and unambiguous terms, a disapproval of the R party and especially the war and calamity in Iraq. It is now March and we have more soldiers heading to war not less. The R party still controls the shots. The D party is unable to do anything intelligent or meaningful. It can't even do something symbolic but meaningless such as pass a non-binding resolution.
The D party is comprised of pieces. There is the "barely D group" who are conservative about something and moderate about something else. There is the "vaguely activist group"who have strong convictions (they claim) but want to keep their powder dry until something really, really bothers them and they have every vote on their side and then they will vote their conscience.
The third group is the "elected officials running for president group" and their supporters. They believe the universe will benefit so greatly from their wisdom and charisma when elected president, that they need to be cautious now and not upset their chances in the primaries. Of course the chosen nominee will then need to be even more cautious in the general election because that's what their handlers will tell them.
A party this divided can't stand up much less stand for anything. Why bother voting for them if they won't do the job they were elected to do? All we can do is complain to them, email and write letters and keep the pressure on them, remind them why they were elected. March will be a big month for demonstrations; I pray for impeachment proceedings to begin.
