Remember "Vietnamization"?
That was a term for handing the war there back to the South Vietnamese -- trying to pull our troops out and leave it to them. I think the term was invented by one of the Nixon-Kissinger spinmeisters.
If it had worked at all, Saigon might not now be officially known as Ho Chi Minh City.
I think the current administration's spinmeisters have avoided coining a word like "Iraqification" for fear it will be equated with "Vietnamization", just as the "surge" was compared to "escalation".
The other day, Dick Cheney suggested the British are pulling troops out of Iraq because their job was finished. He didn't use any catchy term like "Iraqification," but in case you're tempted to wonder if it might actually work, read Gary Trudeau's Doonesbury strips for this week.

Without much finger-pointing, Trudeau shows that it's hard to imagine that anyone in Iraq has enough stake in helping us do whatever we're trying to do to stick his neck out.
It's a sad comment on the state of journalism today that the folks who seem to have the best understanding of politics -- Trudeau, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert -- are the ones who pose as comics.
