On March 9, we mark the birth of an extraordinary woman. Her courage, tenacity, dirty mind and slow wit have become the characteristics that are aspired to by the hipsters that throng to follow her shallow but humorous teachings.
I met this woman for the first time just recently, and I have to tell you I was amazed at how self-assured and contented she was. Maybe all women of her age are like that...I don't know enough women her age to be sure. But she carries herself as though she knows that she's conquered the demons in the world and has finally found peace in the knowledge that, yes, she really is that fucking strong.
She's a lot more liberal than I realized, and probably a lot more liberal than she ever thought she would be back in the days when she was the staunchest of conservatives. But the school of hard knocks seems to change people sometimes, and the lines that crease her face and the white hair hidden by carefully-applied coloring mark the changes that she's gone through over the years as she's evolved into what she is today.
Tomorrow, take the day off from work or school. Find a nice park, a pretty lake, a quiet cliff in the desert on which to sit, or a window with raindrops rolling down it.
Think of how much the world has changed knowing that I, Auntie Neo Kawn, have the audacity to write a tribute to myself on the eve of my 35th birthday on the biggest political blog in the world.
Happy birthday...to ME!
