At the monthly meeting of the Stafford Democratic Committee, we met two of our candidates going up against formidible, entrenched GOP incumbents.
Peggy Evans Clark, former Commonwealth's Attorney for Westmoreland County, has announced for the 28th State Senate seat against incumbent President Pro Tem John Chichester. Chichester is a former Democrat who abandoned the party during the collapse of the Byrd Machine in the late 70's. He is a powerful force for moderation in the Senate, but the hard-core Republicans despise him. The typical election cycle for Chichester is he gets a wingnut opponent in the primary, then runs unopposed in the general. Not this year! Peggy is going to suprise people with her political savvy, and our job will be to make sure Democrats know this year we've got one of our own running!

Our other announced candidate for the House of Delegates 88th District is the estimable Carlos Del Toro. Man, Carlos has so much energy just being in the room with him is like a jolt of caffeine! Plus, his great, major-league contacts are going to ensure a good funding stream that will really help him get his message out to defeat the incumbent, Mark Cole. I can't wait to start canvassing the district to make sure people know Carlos, I think this seat is going into the pickup column in November.
