Would you believe it if you heard that 159 of 198 House Republicans voted for this?
4:14 P.M. -
Amendment offered by Mr. Sali.
An amendment numbered 4 printed in House Report 110-48 to remove the provision that would make influencing federally funded scientific research a prohibited personnel practice.
Well, they did
I guess that standing up for interference in scientific research while a firestorm is occuring over Republicans removing pesky U.S. attorneys might make sense, provided one sniffs glue.
The 39 Republicans who voted against this amendment are under the fold, and some of the Republicans who voted for this amendment are noted too.
The 39 who voted nay: Bartlett, Barton, Boustany, Brown-Waite, Castle, Cubin, Dent, Ehlers, Ferguson, Fortenberry, Gilchrest, Gillmor, Herger, Hoekstra, Hulshof, Jindal, Tim Johnson of Illinois, Kirk, LaHood, LaTourette, Jerry Lewis, LoBiando, Mack, McHugh, Moran of Kansas, Tim Murphy, Petri, Platts, Regula, Reichert, Shays, Chris Smith, Tancredo, Tiahrt, Greg Walden, Jim Walsh, Wicker, Wolf, Bill Young
Republicans voting Aye include Heather Wilson (in trouble for interfering in an investigation), Mary Bono (so-called Moderate), Brian Bilbray (so-called Moderate), Peter King (Administration water-carrier), Randy Kuhl (rubber stamp), Thad McCotter (rubber stamp), Joe Knollenberg (rubber stamp), Jim Ramstad (so-called moderate), and Tim Walberg (wingnut)
Republicans who didn't vote include Henry Brown, Jo Ann Davis, Kay Granger, and Jim Saxton.
Fortunately for truth, justice, and the American way, 232 Democrats voted nay on this amendment, sending it down by a 271-159 defeat.
But, wow, 159 of 198 voting for that amendment right now?
