Friends,
Because I have so many personal friends and political soul-mates here to KOS, I wanted you to be among the first to know.
Yesterday, after speaking with friends and hearing your voices, I sent an email to supports, donors and friends of TerriPAC to let them know I've decided to keep the PAC open throughout 2008 and engage in these pending and important elections.
The text of that email is below but...
...to make sure we're ready for 2008, though, I'm going to need your help. If we're going to stay engaged, we need to raise money. Not a lot by Presidential standards. But some.
But before we get to the PAC announcement, a few things for KOS readers.
I believe that the ongoing United States Attorney General scandal is a symptom of the shallow and dangerous disregard for the law that the nation saw in my case in 2005. This evening, I'll be working on a full-length diary on this to post (I hope) tomorrow.
Also, in case you missed this news, here's a link about Mitt Romney where he disclosed in a recent TV interview that he opposed what the government did in my case. Anyone want to guess how his candor is playing on the far right?
And, lastly, in direct response to Romney's statements, the Schindler family (now described as "pro-life" activists) has decided to endorse Sam Brownback for President.
Thanks again, for all the support you've shown me. I'm getting ready for 2008 and I look forward to continuing to be a major voice for personal liberty and the rule of law in our nation. I do check the comments and do my best to reply so please let me know what you think about 2008, Romney, TerriPAC or whatever else is on your mind.
Here's the text of the email to our PAC supporters:
Thanks to you, our successes last year were impressive and well documented.
Our united efforts to stand up against government intervention in our private lives were a major factor in the changes we saw in our elected leadership last November. I am so proud to have been a part of that effort.
Many of you know we have debated about our next step as an organization. Moving forward to face the continued political challenges, accepting our impressive impact in 2006 and closing the PAC and moving into a more educational non-profit role were all discussed.
But after discussing our options and looking at recent developments, I’ve come to understand that we still have an important role to play.
It’s disappointing and disturbing that the right-wing leaders who keep pushing this issue won’t just admit they made a mistake. Instead, they insist that their misguided, illegal and intrusive efforts to "Save Terri" were not only defensible but mandatory. It’s pure insanity.
And it means I can’t abandon this fight. There’s still a great deal at stake and I believe that where candidates stand on this case can be an important indication about their respect all our rights, families and decisions.
So over the next months, I’ll attempt to meet with and discuss these issues with Presidential and Congressional candidates of all parties. And I’ll do my best to share their opinions and public statements with you.
If we’re going to repeat our 2006 performance, we need to get ready for 2008 now. Estimates are that we need to raise as much $50,000 this year alone just to get ready for 2008.
I don’t know if we can do it. But I am committed to try and that means I am committed to asking for your help.
Can you help us keep this critical fight going and get ready for 2008?
We don’t need to raise all that money right now. But your immediate, secure on-line donation of $100, $50 or $25 will help us on our way. You can make express your support for our efforts right now by clicking here. I’ve asked our Director to tell you below how we’ll use some of the money we raise now. He also has some news about the Presidential candidates.
If we’re going to keep pushing back on the well-financed right-wing religious leaders who insist on making this a political issue, we need your help.
Thanks again for all you’ve already done and your continued support as we underline the clear line between our politics and our freedoms.
With Great Thanks,
Michael Schiavo
