Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, show off our favorite pet pics and perhaps share advice. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. :-)
Yesterday, at our work retreat, we puzzled over the question, "Why do we celebrate St. Patrick's Day?" History.com tells us:
St. Patrick is believed to have driven the snakes from Ireland. Once a pagan himself, St. Patrick is one of Christianity's most widely known figures.
The modern secular holiday is based on the original Christian saint's feast day also thought to be the date of the saint's death. In 1737, Irish immigrants to the United States began observing the holiday publicly in Boston and held the first St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City in 1766.
Around these parts, St. Patrick's Day means the wearing of the green, green beer, tavern hopping, free green carnations for the ladies and free bus rides for everyone!

My fp this week is that I am completely out of shape. I have taken up walking at the Olympic training facility near my home, and horseback riding once a week. I am also transitioning my junk food diet to more healthy dining, thanks in good part to great recipes I have found on DailyKos. But it's going to take a long time to get back in trim. I aim to get as healthy as I can, as quickly as I can, in hopes of staying out of the clutches of Big Insurance and Big Pharma. It saddens and frustrates me to see friends battle the for-profit healthcare industry when all they are trying to do is care for sick parents and/or spouses.
That's my fp. What is yours?
