I do. Here is a man who, along with his vice-president, used his considerable connections to avoid having to serve in a war for which he proclaimed support, who now suggests that the majority of Americans who oppose the war in Iraq lack courage and resolve.
In fact, the only persons from whom courage and any sacrifice is demanded are the men and women sent to Iraq over and over again. Neither Bush nor Cheney ever demonstrated the kind of courage or sacrifice that Bush asks of them. Indeed, to Bush, our sacrifice (that is - the sacrifice of non-combatants) is in having to experience the loss of peace of mind that comes with having to endure the terrible images of violence on tv every night. How inconsiderate of the television newscasters.
But what can we expect from the son of Barbara Bush who expressed great perturbation at having to hear about body bags and deaths, and how many, because she did not want to waste her beautiful mind on something like that.
So, as Bush calls for courage and resolve, he continues to ask no sacrifice of anyone other than the men and women he has sent to Iraq as often as three times and the families of those brave soldiers. There has never been a question of their courage, Mr. Bush.
It makes me want to puke that a craven coward like Bush would lecture the nation on courage and resolve, It is not the lack of courage and resolve that has caused the vast majority of Americans to question our involvement in Iraq, as Bush and Cheney suggest; but the lack of legitimacy to our involvement, the lack of national interest that is served by our continued presence and the conviction that the only reason for staying in Iraq - at the cost of more lives, more wounded and billions more in dollars - is the desperate attempt by Bush to salvage his legacy.
So, Mr. President, don't speak to us again of courage and resolve. Instead, for once in your life show courage such as you never have shown by admittimg you screwed up and show courage by rectifying your miserable screw ups and getting us out of the mess you got us into.
