Ok. It's time to put the "Lam has immigration policy enforcement issues" excuse to bed. Seriously. Just stop.
In July of 2006, Rep. Darryl Issa formally complained to the Justice Department that Carol Lam was not prosecuting enough border cases. Senator Feinstein also requested an update on the status of "immigration-related cases in the Southern District of California."
The workings of the Department's coordinated response is made clear as day by an e-mail from David Smith (USAEO).
Apparently they thought so little of Carol Lam's immigration policy enforcement, they gave her editing power over the response:
"Attached is the revised response to the Feinsten letter that contains Carol Lam's edits." (emphasis mine)
...
"I also put the Lam-revised Issa letter...on OLA letterhead." (emphasis mine)
Vewy intewesting,
So what do the response letters say? Apparently Carol Lam had decided that with the resources at hand, going after organizer's of human smuggling was more effective than pretending she could prosecute everyone:
"Each United States Attorney attempts to leverage his or her existing resources to achieve maximum results. ...Although felony immigration filings in the Southern District of California dropped, that result flowed from a conscious decision to focus resources on seeking higher sentences for more serious offenders."
The letter drops Issa to his knees by hitting him between the eyes with cold, hard, facts, "...sentences between 37-60 months rose from 116-246, and....sentences greater than 60 months rose from 21 to 77."
Sentences rose. Sentences rose. Sentences rose.
There is your meme, Democrats. Repeat it.
Any claims that Lam was relieved of her duty because of immigration prosecution deficiencies are pure b.s.
Most amazing is the chutzpah these guys have in flat-out lying to Congress.
