I can't take it anymore. Every day I come here looking for the diary title that matters: BUSH IMPEACHED, or WAR ENDS, or DEMOCRATS UNITED TO STOP WAR. Or even CHENEY DROPS DEAD.
Oh, flame away. You think I don't wake up every morning hoping for an end to this infernal madness? That I wouldn't wish for a man who lives for the kind of power that leads only to death and destruction to be put out of our misery? What do you think the original patriots would have done if George III had croaked in his sleep -- had a friggin caucus and then sent flowers to the funeral?
I'm going to say my piece, dammit.
This is no joke. We are living in the most perilous time in this nation's history - awash in reckless war, two clicks away from economic meltdown, on the brink of escalation with Iran. We have an administration loaded with the criminal riff raff from Iran Contra and every other secret CIA and Security Council assasination, black op, government overthrow, illegal weapons sale, drug running, and nefarious anti-Constitutional act of every kind.
Why are our representatives negotiating with madmen?
We are fools and fussbudgets. Huge ass diaries every day on the intricacies of Rove's e-mailing habits. Exhaustive legal pontifications on Alberto Gonzales' lie-of-the-week. The occasional pat-on-the-back diaries congratulating the Democrats we elected for -- what? -- their superior maneuvering skills, I guess.
I have been sitting here for hours reading it all and there's only one diary I agree with:

Don't tell me I'm not smart enough to see the game. I do. You can tell me I'm not eager to play it. The one where we show how smart we are by combing through all of Karl's e-mails so we can get him on income tax evasion. Again, they set the agenda. They release what they wish. They watch us twist and spin. Then they go onto the next outrage. We've been doing this for months and months and here's what we have to show for it:
- A soon to be pardoned Scooter Libby (wow, big catch).
- Proof that Bushco's DOJ thinks Fitzgerald ranks "mediocre" (surprise!)
- A guarantee that the war can drag on until 2008 at which time it will be hung around the neck of Democrats and other panty waists.
We've got hearings on the environment, hearings on this, hearings on that. Meanwhile, Bushco goes along its merry way, lying like whores at a prayer meeting, robbing us totally blind.
Here's what ordinary Americans think: "I thought the Democrats were going to end the war."
Not eventually. Not later. Not in 2008. NOW.
You see where our Democratic presidential contenders are? Arguing about their original fucking votes, throwing shit on each other, playing the game. Colbert is right. We are pussies.
Pussies and fools and fussbudgets. I have a theory. Maybe it's because I'm 52 now, and lived through the first go-round with these bastards. I would be willing to bet that the diarists who are liking the document dumps and the legal beagle-ing and the game playing are the younger among us. No insult meant. None at all. It's brilliant.
It's also pointless in many ways. Let me tell you about these fuckers. You cannot win at this game.

The "war" is the place to start. It was illegal, it is an occupation, it is pointless, it is making the world more perilous, it is jeopardizing our security more than Osama ever could, it is throwing billions down a rathole. And -- oh yeah -- while Democrats fiddle with timetables, some mother's son has been blown to smithereens and will come back home in a box tomorrow. Geez, hate to risk looking "weak on national defense" in my pretty-red-kinda-pink district next election. Lord knows, my re-election is like the goddamndest most important thing I can think of.
Doesn't anyone have the courage to say it? To do the right thing?
At some point, we're going to have to admit that we're getting our jollies playing "Strategery" with the Moron in Chief. Ha ha, ain't we smarter than him? Well, fucking A, who isn't? At some point, it should scare the living shit out of us that we actually feel like the blogs are driving "the meme." Especially when "the meme" is: we caught Karl using rnc.com !!!
Do you think your ordinary, average American -- let's say, one of those Americans who actually earns minimum wage and uses the internet not to blog, but to buy cheap stuff on ebay -- will even GET that?
That is a great line:

Americans would get that. Even that hard core 30 or so percent who would accuse us traitorous Democrats of spanking on the president while secretly and gleefully tearing up Johnny, Jr.'s stop loss papers.
Americans live in a cocoon and have short memories and precious little education in history or civics. They have no idea that the same creep club running the show now overthrew a slew of governments, has been trying to control the middle east and the oil for several decades now, and created the conditions that led to 9-11. The ignorant shall not inherit the earth. But they very well may blow it up. It is too much to ask a politician to educate everyone right now, but that, too, has to be done. An ignorant electorate will follow a fascist leader into a war of choice to steal another country's shit. Proven fact. And we need to do something about that. AFTER we end the occupation.
After we end that clusterfuck, we can move onto all the other things that require our urgent attention, like impeaching the Decider and his stooges, and reversing every damn thing he's done for six years. First, we support the troops by ending this insanity. Then we support every single American with decent wages, health care, real educations, enlightened environmental policy, innovative energy initiatives, corporate reform, election reform ... oh, it's a long list. You know the list, you live to work on that list. Me, too. But we can't make any progress until we are courageous enough to send this message loud and clear:

There was a comment downthread about assigning blame for this war. the American people are candidates for blame. Everyone should watch this video before formulating an answer. It is quite a piece of journalism.
