After many years as a proud Decline to State Voter, I became a Democrat in December of 06. I did it, not out of any burning desire to be a Democrat, but so I would be able to become Charlie Brown’s alternate on the Placer County Democratic Central Committee (PCDCC) I'm still a pretty lousy example of a "Democrat" to be honest, but I'm learning ;-)
Yeah yeah I know— Central Committee stuff, meh. Boooring. Well yes and no. We at the PCDCC are kicking elephant butt and taking names and I’ll tell you how if you’ll follow me below the bump.
A little background is in order. I live in Eastern Placer County in far Eastern California (we are the red headed step child of the County) in the 4th Congressional District. I got tied in with all these proud Placer Dems when I became involved in the Charlie Brown for Congress campaign. Charlie challenged the nefarious John Doolittle in the last election and came this close to winning. In the aftermath Charlie convinced me to re-register as a Democrat, become his alternate on the PCDCC and get more involved in Committee activities.
Since December the PCDCC has recommitted to voter outreach in our "Oh So Red" District. We are going to local High Schools to explain why we are Democrats (it's not the glamorous lifestyle, by the way), we are registering voters, working with the local Dem clubs to establish a unified base for next February (yikes), and have had a few major successes such as reestablishing the Sierra College Democratic Club and sold out on the Charlie Brown and Rob Haswell campaign calendars (you can read my tragically under read diary on that topic here.
We are working to build a solid ground organization to help turn Red California Blue. Volunteers all over the District are giving house parties for Charlie (hey, I can see my house from here!), we are creating a network of folks throughout not only Placer County, but the whole 4th CD in order to Dump Doolittle To see his many ties to Jack Abramoff and the CNMI scandal click here and be very scared (a very special hat tip to Dengre, American River Canyon and all the other great diarists who use the John Doolittle Tag!).
We are also developing new printed materials (full color glossy tri-fold brochures—oooh so sexy) to hand out to existing and potential voters as well as precinct captains/walkers and the Dem Clubs.
But (as always) we need money. We Placer County Dems are the poor country mouse cousins of the sophisticated and wealthy City mice. And as much as we scrimp and save, we need money. Money via Act Blue for our PCDCC brochures, money to help elect Charlie Brown and, of course, money for the Free Beer.
Well, actually there is no free beer, but a few dollars thrown our way would help out greatly with our other needs. Donate using Act Blue
