Here is my latest attempt at some humorous poetry. While I usually (I hope) have more of a Calvin Trillin feeling to my light verse, today I seem to be channeling--albeit not all that well--Dr. Seuss. It's a short conversation between Congress and the White House regarding the subpoena conflict for Rove, et al.
I hope you enjoy. The text of the "poem" is below the fold.
One Subpoena, Two Subpoena, House Subpoena, Senate Subpoena
Oh, Harriet Miers and Bush's Brain,
You must come to the Hill and explain
How attorney firings were politicized.
Subpoenas we have authorized.
We will write down what is said
To later highlight lies in red.
No, no transcript may be kept,
This condition you must accept.
Gallantly, gallantly though you may try,
You can't impair our right to lie.
You will testify under oath.
A record and oath,
We insist on both!
On our oath we will not swear,
Because the truth we may forebear.
Gallantly, gallantly though you may try,
You can't impair our right to lie.
C-Span though will show it all,
So the citizens can make the call.
On this fact you are mistaken.
No cameras,
No lights,
No pictures taken.
Gallantly, gallantly though you may try,
You can't impair our right to lie.
