Ok, so Congress is facing a potential veto on the Iraq funding issue. This shouldn't be too surprising, Presidents have vetoed many bills before. But I read this quote today:
Sununu said, "Everyone knows the president is going to veto this legislation. Unfortunately, that makes this a political exercise. I think we should take our responsibility more seriously."
more after the break....
Now am I reading this right?? Does Sununu actually think the only purpose of Congress is to do what the President will OK? If this is true then why even have Congress?
This is an important revelation. As of today we can do away with one of the three branches of government, as it has been stated by Sununu that Congress is not needed as anything other than a "yes man" for the President. Do we need to pay the salaries of 435 "yes men" in the House and another 100 "yes men" in the Senate? Along with all their "Yes Men" staff? Heck no. If their job is to just do what the President will sign, then hire one friend of Bush to do that. Give the job to Rove and turn the Congress into low income housing or something useful....
So the question is: According to Sununu,
Is Congress even needed?
Should Congress be kept, but just as a "Yes Man" for the President?
Or
Does Congress have real duties and real resposibilities that are separate and independent and equal to the Executive branch??
I was taught that the last one is correct. Sadly it seems that members of Congress were not taught the same as I was.
