With news today that New Hampshire Senator John Sununu may be in trouble in his re-election bid, I can only say, "good riddance."
After the media circus around the illegal and unprecedented political intrusion on Terri's wishes and my family privacy, I started TerriPAC for the chief purpose of reminding voters what their elected officials said and did on this important issue - in fact, this clear indication of whether politicians prefer politics or privacy.
Senator Sununu, it may not shock you to learn, sided with former elected officials Tom Delay, Rick Santorum and George Allen on this issue. And soon, it appears, he will join them.
Here's what Senator Sununu said to CNN about my case just over two years ago on March 20, 2005:
"...given the circumstances of the complex nature, the fact that this is life and death, and we have a mother and siblings who have been clear in their willingness to care for Terri Schiavo, we ought to allow them to have the circumstances in their case reviewed in federal court before Terri Schiavo is left to die."
Was that Tom Delay?
Or John Sununu, The New England moderate?
It was Sununu, of course, just parroting the Delay/Bush right-wing talking points. So, New Hampshire, you know where Sununu was and you know where he's going to be if you send him back to Washington.
Over the next few months, I'll continue to do my best to remind voters across the country exactly what happened two years ago. With your help, we'll continue the trend that sent more than 20 supporters of "Terri's Law" to an early retirement in 2006.
