Amazing. Al Franken raised $1.3 million for his Senate bid from 10,000 donors in Q1. Blockquote time:
The campaign expects to report over $1.3 million raised from over 10,000 contributors from all 50 states and Washington, DC. In addition, the campaign enters the second quarter with over $1 million cash on hand. This total represents funds raised in the campaign's first 45 days after its February 14 launch.
Coleman had about $1.7 million on hand before Q1 started. After a March 7 poll shows Coleman under 50% with Franken gaining, that's not an impressive war chest - especially if Franken can keep up the fundraising. With the average contribution to Al's campaign at $130 a person, there are still a lot of people out there to give money.
Now, I know some people are concerned about Al as a candidate, even though MN has elected some quirky progressives over the years (this is Garrison Keillor country). But $1.3 million in a month-and-a-half is pretty impressive with all of the money going into our presidential primary.
I hope Al will come on the blogs and tell us why we should support him. I gave him $50 for "The Truth" and "Lies" (and I'm sure many of you did too). So go over to his website and ask him to come by Kos.
