It kind of hit me like a whirlwind a few minutes ago as I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was driving individuals to foam at the mouth over the thought deprived snap commentary of a crusty old coot.
But then I did some basic math. 300 million americans, 200 million of which are white. Hmmm... It wouldn't be that some fringe political groups, and apparently the media at large, are attempting to smooth a runway for Mr. Obama now, would it?
So the thought sort of goes like this, the new thought police know that Obama's chances of becoming the chief executive of a country who is majority white is a very tall order considering the xenophobia of nearly all Republicans, and a very good amount of Democrats (who I guarentee will not come out of the closet on the issue to your face).
So what are these fringe political groups to do to pave the way for Obama... find and politically crucify anyone making the faintest hint of a racial comment, make "an example" of this person, and ruin their career if at all possible. Create enough fear in the white community that if they even think a racial thought that they should punish themselves profusely in an effort to educate themselves from ever accidentally "saying it".
How else would Obama stand a chance of making it through the primaries and onward to the white house? The language of others must be controlled, which must explain why I was seeing so many McCarthy-ism parallels to this whole incident.
But my question to those pushing such methods is "Do you honestly think this will work to your advantage, and that no one can actually smell the hubris emmanating from this"?
The thing about being a spider wating for something to fly into your web is that it is typically the unattentive or horrendously stupid flies that will end up in it. You seem to forget that the smarter flies that largely think the same way will never be caught, simply because they are more attentive. But, to complete the analogy, you have to keep in mind that the attentive person might think the same exact thing as the unattentive person, and you will never catch them, nor will you shame them into voting for someone they would never bring themself to.
