The New York Times has an interesting article today about Brigham Young University students protesting the university's invitation to Dick Cheney as commencement speaker. Rare Protests at Brigham Young Over a Planned Cheney Appearance
Although I particularly liked the photograph of a student holding a sign that says "Love Your Enemies...Unless They Are Enemy Combatants," the reason for this diary is to highlight a quote attributed to David Lassen, 23, the chairman of the B.Y.U. College Republicans who is reported as saying,
“We’re excited for the world to see what B.Y.U. really is,” Mr. Lassen said. “No matter what you think of Cheney, he’s easily the most powerful man in the world.”
Excuse me? I know I have thought for a long time that Dick Cheney is the puppeteer pulling George Bush's strings but the chairman of the B.Y.U. College Republicans thinks so too?
I would love someone to ask David Lassen if he meant this, or made a (freudian) slip of the tongue, or was misquoted. What exactly did he mean?
