While we spend ourselves into bankruptcy and failure at two billion dollars a week, China is chugging along building their infrastructure.
No matter how expensive transit infrastructure might be, it at least gives you something back. What do bombs and guns give back?
Next time talk turns to the "danger of China" mention this: Bus Rapid Transit.
China proposes to abandon the car-dependent, energy- and pollution-intensive development path, making it more secure and prosperous, maintaining a sense of community and cohesion in its cities, and protecting the environment and the health of its citizens.
BRT‘s cost-effectiveness and flexibility makes it particularly suitable for development in China. It is our hope that as more researchers, government policymakers, and citizens learn about BRT and other sustainable public transportation options, our vision of sustainable transportation systems as the norm in China will become a reality.
Bus Rapid Transit refers to buses which run on their own dedicated lane, typically the two inner lanes of a four or six lane street, and have sheltered stops, ticketing before boarding, and raised platforms so that boarding and leaving is very quick, from all doors.
It is also being considered in the United States, but of course vested interests such as automobile manufacturers are blocking the process. No such problem in China.
