Los Angeles area AM radio station KFI AM 640's "shock jocks" John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou of the "The John and Ken Show"(3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.) have decided to stand in solidarity with Don Imus by doing an "hour of protest" today from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and then announced a "new format" from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
During the "hour of protest", they said they weren't going to do any more controversial topics on their shows because, according to them, "Al Sharpton is now in control of what we can say", and they played songs such as the Captain and Tennille's "Muskrat Love" and Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe Through the Tulips".
More below the flip.
In the 6:00 p.m. hour, they returned to a talk format, but spoke only about noncontroversial topics, beginning with oatmeal, rainbows, soup, rubber bands, and blankets (as of the time of this diary).
If you're not aware, John and Ken have a history of repeated racist anti-immigrant and anti-Hispanic tirades. There is hardly a progressive idea they haven't attacked on-air at one point or another.
Of course, this effort on their part is intended entirely as sarcasm. They're bending over backwards to be insufferably bland and boring, to prove that angry, hateful tirades are the only profitable format for talk radio.
Let's make this backfire on them.
Contact their Programming Department and inform them how much you appreciate their format change away from hate radio:
