I just read at RawStory that the NYTimes has a story comparing Imus to Coulter and asking why she doesn't get in trouble for similar behavior. I have to ask if the better comparison isn't Imus to Limbaugh -- radio show to radio show. I could be mistaken -- don't listen to Limbaugh much either -- but doesn't Limbaugh show himself to be a bigot several times a week? So is the rule that you can be a bigot all you like if you refrain from inflammatory language?
I don't think losing Imus is all that injurious to the liberal/progressive community. He did not have a very big audience and I honestly can't remember any single thing that he said or did that was regarded as a lasting and memorable contribution. However, there is little doubt that he was held to a higher standard because he was regarded as liberal.
This is my first diary here. I cannot declare myself an expert on anything so I'm just asking questions. There is one declaration I would like to make, a non-sequitor: Patriot Act = Instrument of Surrender
I'm not sure how these diaries work, but I very sincerely hope this does not wind up on the home page.
