Let me first say that I have no strong feelings about any of the Democratic candidates.
It was something of a surprise to check my Gmail and see a note from "John and Elizabeth Edwards" regarding today's tragedy at Virginia Tech.
In case you haven't seen it, it starts with, "We are simply heartbroken by the deaths and injuries suffered at Virginia Tech. We know what an unspeakable, life-changing moment this is for these families and how, in this moment, it is hard to feel anything but overwhelming grief, much less the love and support around you."
It goes on from there much as you'd probably expect, includes a verse from a hymn and closes with, "Our dearest wish is that this day could start again, with the promise of these young people alive. Knowing that cannot be, our prayer is for God’s grace and whatever measure of peace can be reached on this terrible day."
Maybe it's me, but do those sorts of thoughts not go without saying? It's challenging for me to see a point in sending out that e-mail. To me, it could be taken as trying to score points in the wake of a hideous tragedy.
I'm not trying to come across as wishy-washy in my uncertainties and equivocations; I'm honestly not quite sure what to make of it and wonder what other people think.
