Many politicians and defense experts, including retired four-star General Barry McCaffrey, declare that our U.S. military is in a disastrous state. McCaffrey says our country is being put in strategic peril.
Our students, families, and all loved ones are put in strategic peril by this president. Our banks, ports, financial institutions, power plants, businesses, and our corporations. Our democracy and capitalistic society is in strategic peril. Our lives are at stake.
But Bush still has that old "Pet Goat" mentality. (Video here.) Due to his incompetence, he is unfit to command. After all, because he's unable and/or unwilling to do the job, he is looking for a war czar, which historically has been conducted by our sworn-in commander-in-chief.
It is imperative to protect America, here in our homeland.
This is why ALL of our duly-elected representatives need to strip the chicken muck from their backs and become leaders. They need to force George Bush’s hand on negotiating his signature to a war spending bill that stops the war. Our soldiers need to come home and rest. We need them here to protect us.
By vetoing this bill, Bush will be putting us in further strategic peril. Placing conditions on the war spending bill is the best plan for our nation.
If this president vetoes the bill, a bi-partisan war-time military draft should be attached to "his" bill; the bill that he wants – the one with no-time-frame. We are not recruiting enough new military enlistees to protect our native soil, so, unfortunately, a military draft is needed. It can be a limited draft, say, for the next 5-10 years, or until the Iraq war ends, so we can rebuild our military. It can be called a temporary war-time draft. This would help our precious military personnel, and would help in the Iraq and Afghan wars. It would help to protect our homes, businesses, and most importantly, our lives; including the lives of our beloved soldiers.
Our women and men in the military are damn courageous. Isn't it about time our senators and representatives were?
[UPDATED POLL - BELOW: I deleted the poll, but it didn't delete. I'm new at this. Sorry. But if you do vote, last 2 words are "...protect America?"]
