Don't get me wrong. I am glad that Imus got his comeuppance. I've long felt that show was crass, juvenile and yes, racist. We can argue whether his punishment was too severe. Personally, I think that it was. He apologized and the apology was accepted. But why does Imus take such a public fall and someone else with a larger daily radio audience, namely, Rush Limbaugh, get to skate. Rush's history of racially insensitive and sexist remarks is at least as long as Imus's. Plus he's got a host of other problems, like the prescription drug scanda. Yet he keeps skating. Why?
On the race issue, Rush is at least as bad as Imus, if not worse.
Remember his take on Donovan McNabb:
" "the sports media, being liberals just like liberal media is elsewhere, have a desire that black quarterbacks excel and do very well so that their claims that blacks are being denied opportunity can be validated."
Earlier, he told an African American caller to "take the bone out of his nose."
He also once said:
"Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?"

He's also suggested that the NAACP should hold riot practice etc.
On the sexist side, let's not forget that he calls N.O.W. the "NAG" group and rails against Feminazi's. He once called 13 year old Chelsea Clinton the White House Dog on his nationally syndicated T.V. show. He openly mocks sexual harassment victims and feminism in general.
Why does he get off while Imus takes the fall? Is it just his corporate sponsors? Or are the media not as liberal as our friends on the right would have us believe?
