As a follow up on my Socialist healthcare horror diary, I thought I'd bring you the good news as we've seen my son's doctor after doing a new MRI.
(Short version of what he has, if you have not followed previous updates: my now 6.5yo son has a brain tumor, diagnosed 2.5 years ago, surgery that left him partly handicapped, 15-months chemiotherapy, apparently cured, relapse last autumn, radiotherapy this winter).
The good news is that the radiotherapy appears to have worked, as the tumor is no longer visible. There is still an inflammated area, which is normal after radiotherapy, and which hides whatever's there (so a very small bit of tumor could still theoretically be found), but it's very small. Thus, this is the best news that we could hope at this point - there will be no further treatment for now, just quarterly check-ups.
A big "phew" is appropriate for now, I guess. And many thanks to all of you that have had kind words or thoughts for my son and my family.
Update [2007-4-25 17:51:26 by Jerome a Paris]: Thank you all for the kind words and touching messages. I am now off to bed - it's been quite a roller-coaster of a day - but I will read all your messages tomorrow. Peace.
