Is it just me?
Or does the banning of MSOC serve only those we challenge?
Is it about rules or about rutabagas or turnips?
Because I didn't just fall off the truck.
Yes, there have been serious disagreements between people who have been central to the development of DailyKos over the years. That is unfortunate, but also a sign of healthy growth. Still, I can only see this development as an example of the left blogosphere eating its own. The phrase has a rich political history.
Nearly every political revolution since the Enlightenment has been characterized by brutal internal infighting. And if people who have developed and led this website wish to create a new political revolution - which by all appearances they do - they are fast on the track to doing the same.
I am reminded of Charlotte Corday in the French Revolution. Her assassination of Marat, rather than stopping The Terror, accelerated it. Joseph Stalin's Show Trials first disposed of the left - then the right. By the time it was all over, not a single Leninist Bolshevik leader survived - save Stalin. And who can forget Sadegh Ghotbzadeh? He smiled all through the Hostage Crisis, only to oppose the clerical regime and pay with his life.
The real challenge here is to find a way to gain some degree of reconciliation. It doesn't mean that there has to be agreement. And it sure won't be easy. But to continue on the current trajectory will only harm the efforts of those seeking to redirect this nation of ours. And it will only provide fodder to those who wish to see our country become ever more enfeebled.
