DOJ Warns of Crime ''Sanctuary''
''If the search of Rep. William Jefferson's (D-LA) House office is deemed unconstitutional, such a ruling 'could not help but convert a Member's office into a sanctuary for crime.' So the government argues in an April 2 brief that previews its legal strategy for gaining access to more than 20,000 paper records and computer files seized in the controversial and unprecedented May 2006 search of Jefferson's House office building.'' This is an interesting argument. I always thought the best place to shield a criminal operation from prosecution was the Vice-President's office, it proclaims complete protection from any investigation, above the court system, above congressional investigation; the Perfect Place to Plunder a Nation.
But then again, the REAL perfect crime environment created by this administration is Stock Fraud through insider information. How does that work? (answer below the fold)
Someone working on the ''search your email without warrants in violation of the constitution'' program types in the names of the CEO and perhaps several VP's of major corporations in the U.S. and perhaps a keyword such as ''merger''. After looking at the results of this search the person makes investments based on this ''inside'' knowledge and makes a bundle?
What makes this a perfect crime?
If this person is ever discovered, the administration can't exactly charge this someone with a crime can they? The administration says it is so important to keep this process secret that they can't even tell congress or keep judges in the loop or anything, right? Under the administrations concepts of justice this may not even BE a crime, because it was done at the President's request, it's legal, right?
When it comes to creating criminal sanctuaries, congress doesn't even hold a candle to the current executive branch.
