Here's the headline running at CNN now.
Bush veto forces Dems to weigh difficult concessions
Right. Manly President/Emperor Bush wields his mighty veto pen(is) and now the Dems must concede. Any possibility that the 2006 election results plus near-record-low approval ratings might force Bush to weigh difficult concessions? I guess not at CNN. Any possibility that upcoming budget deadlines will weigh more heavily on Bush than Congress? Not at CNN. Any possibility that the American people are blaming Bush for the debacle in Iraq? Not at CNN.
Superficially unrelated, but it isn't, is Glenn Greenwald's analysis of a pro-dictatorship piece that runs in today's Wall Street Journal. CNN is still stuck under the misimpression that the American people are thirsting for a Big Leader. If we wanted the society that Prof. Mansfield (see the Greenwald article), the WSJ, and in spite of all the evidence, CNN wanted for us, we would getting our news in Korean. Pyongyang dialect.
