I am the most guilty, and this guilty dog will bark first. My diaries are difficult to read.
I hope to remedy this situation, and hope that the community will benefit from my learning. Do not run on for lines and lines.
I will repeat: do no run on for lines and lines.
I am not saying this to offend anyone. I just find it difficult to read a diary that is devoid of white space.
White space does not cost much bandwidth, so use it often. Still, please do not have a one sentence paragraph.
Use bullets liberally. If you can not make one with your processor, just use a - (hyphen) and use spaces to separate your paragraphs. Please look here.
- 11 Republicans read the Riot Act to the pResident today.
- They are fearful of retaining their seats in Congress.
- The pResident promised to consider their concerns.
- You know what that means: nothing.
Another example, from nature:
- Pick your poke carefully, and make sure no foreign objects, plant material, or insects are on it.
- Bring inside, draw a sink full of cold water, and wash it, being careful to pick away any foreign particles.
- Bring a kettle of water to boil, them immerse the poke until it is wilted, five minutes after a full boil is resumed.
Let me show you what the last item looks like in unbulleted prose:
Pick your poke carefully, and make sure no foreign objects, plant material, or insects are on it. Bring inside, draw a sink full of cold water, and wash it, being careful to pick away any foreign particles. Bring a kettle of water to boil, them immerse the poke until it is wilted, five mintues after a full boil is resumed.
You tell me which is easier to understand. I know that this community has a lot of information to share, and it is sort of concentrated from time to time.
But I also know that
- I read to the bottom postings that are easy to read (not lazy, just being realistic)
- I do not read ones where I get lost in long paragraphs (I have other things to do and do not come easily back to where I was)
- If I want to be read, I will make it as easy as possible for my audience.
Well, that is all. I will try to be more cogent and informative in future. With that all said:
There are cases when the information is just too dense to do a bullet treatment. I would observe that only a fraction of the audience is interested in the details. Bullet the big things, then ask the faithful to read "below the fold".
I am done, got to assist my brother in law tomorrow finishing moving into his new place. Please fell free to critique my thoughts, pro or con. Warmest regards, Doc.
