I reached a peak on this Presidential campaign this week. I cannot believe what I have been seeing and hearing in this campaign season.
I am sharing my letter to the editor below the fold. The only addition I would make is now we seem to be the recipient of age discrimination being played as well.
Letters to the editor, 05/09/2007 - Politicians, spare us the ‘card’ playing
May 9, 2007
This presidential campaign is depressing me. One of the very reasons was the May 6 article, "Richardson races to gain Hispanic recognition."
Why does it seem our elected officials are bringing us backwards by always playing to racism, religion or sex, when we are supposed to be moving forward, away from divisive tactics. It’s almost like they’re trying to claim "I should get all the Hispanic voters", or "... all the female voters" or "... all the black voters." I thought we wanted to move forward and realize they are all supposed to be capable in their skills and experience to do the job.
Or is that the problem? They aren’t able to offer a record of accomplishments, so instead they detract from their lack of capabilities by using divisive means? They should be appealing to the good in us with ideas and policy, showing as a great diverse community we can unite for the common good.
