First came the news that the trivial indictments of notorious terrorist Luis Posada Carriles for lying to immigration had been dropped.
The next day we learned that not only were those charges dropped, but he was no longer even under house arrest. The "Osama bin Laden of the Western Hemisphere" is now roaming the streets of the United States, associating with his fellow terrorists.
But there's one irony, as we learn from the New York Times:
Rhonda Anderson, a lawyer for Mr. Posada, ...said Mr. Posada and other members of the team were driving the 1,930 miles from El Paso to his family in Miami because he was on the federal government’s no-fly list.
So they won't declare him a terrorist, but they don't feel comfortable letting him fly, either. In-ter-est-ing.
Tomorrow, Friday, May 11, there will be demonstrations in at least 14 different cities in the United States, and at least 8 more in Canada, Latin America, and Europe, protesting this outrage. Lend your voice and your presence to these demonstrations! Locations include: New York City · Washington · El Paso · San Francisco · Los Angeles · Miami · Chicago · Boston · Milwaukee · Albuquerque · Philadelphia · Pittsburgh · Detroit · Seattle · Orange County · Ciudad Juárez · Vancouver · Montreal · Winnipeg · Toronto · Buenos Aires · Santiago, Chile and Madrid, Spain
Next week, Congress, led by Rep. William Delahunt, will hold hearings on Posada. Delahunt has already issued a statement demanding action against this notorious terrorist.
At the same time that Posada walks (or drives) free, five Cuban men - the "Cuban Five" - are in their ninth year in U.S. prisons, locked up for the sole "crime" of attempting to (and succeeding) prevent acts of terrorism perpetrated by Posada and others like him (Read Peter Kornbluh's article in a recent The Nation for more about these brave counterterrorists).
