Apparently Monica Goodling has Justice Department documents that have been subpoenaed.
"I am concerned, however, about your statement that Ms. Goodling is going to refuse to produce documents in her possession that are responsive to the subpoena," Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), the committee's chairman, wrote to Goodling's attorney John Dowd.
The audacity is astonishing. Who does this woman think she is? Does she honestly believe that she can circumvent the law to benefit herself and the White House? And get away with it?
From Raw Story:
In responding to an argument made by Dowd on why Goodling did not need to turn the documents over, he added, "We are aware of no authority that permits internal Department administrative regulation to allow a former employee of the Department of Justice, or any other person, to avoid the subpoena power of the House of Representatives, as that power is central to the House's ability to carry out its Constitutional oversight mandate and certainly trumps internal agency regulations.
Seriously? How was this person allowed to make such critical decisions for the Justice Department? She is acting like a five-year old who doesn't want to get into trouble from Mommie and Daddy.
The Justice Department will have a long way to go to prove their credibility after all of this. How will we ever be able to trust our legal system again?
This is insanity! I will definitely be watching the hearing tomorrow! How about you?
Update: Here is a link to TPMmuckraker for some of the documents where David Margolis spoke to Congressional investigators about Goodling.
Margolis' testimony excerpt
"She came down about 8:00 and she started by saying, "Has Kyle talked to you?" And I said, "Yeah, he came by earlier." And then she proceeded for the next, it seemed like forever but it was probably only about 30 or 45 minutes, to bawl her eyes out and say, "All I ever wanted to do was serve this President and this administration and this department," and then cry more, and more, and more, and more, and talk about -- talk about how she came to Washington, you know. Personal stuff...."
