In an online chat at the Washington Post today, former U.S. Attorney David Iglesias stated his belief that "Ms. Lam, Mr. Bogden, Mr. McKay and me" were forced out in an attempt "to derail or interfere with on-going cases or investigations." I don't think Iglesias has been so explicit before about his belief that Lam, McKay, Bogden and himself were fired illegally.
In the future, whenever Republican Senators or Representatives claim nothing improper occurred in the replacement of U.S. Attorneys, Democrats can respond that at least one fired U.S. Attorney (a Bush appointee) believes that is not true.
Here's the relevant excerpt from today's chat:
Rochester, N.Y.: Most employees are "at-will" employees and can be fired for no reason at all or any reason that is not a statutory violation, and this happens thousands of times every day. Why do you think you deserve to be treated differently than every other at-will employee?
David Iglesias: Rochester: Because, as Sen. Specter and AG Gonzales have stated, there are some inappropriate reasons to force US Attorneys out. Such as trying to derail or interfere with on-going cases or investigations. I believe that to be the case with Ms. Lam, Mr. Bogden, Mr. McKay and me.

I am hopeful that this assertion by Iglesias will get some media coverage now as it at the very least justifies further investigation of the replacement of Lam, McKay, Iglesia and Bogden. I hope the Democrats don't let this matter drop upon Gonzales' likely resignation.
