Just saw this over on Think Progress:
Senators want answers on Iran.
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Sens. Carl Levin (D-MI), Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), and Joe Biden (D-DE) write President Bush: "Congress needs to have greater confidence that the Administration is not mismanaging Iran policy as it has mismanaged its Iraq policy."
Clearly, after six long years, Reid neither understand Bush and the people around him nor how this political game is played in Washington.
After his resounding defeat two days ago, does he really believe that he can now induce Bush to do anything ? Does he not see that with each defeat he becomes more inconsequential, and his requests more trivial to this administration? One thing we have learned about these guys is that they are bullies, and like bullies everywhere they respect strength. They talk real tough, but the few who have the nerve to stare them down are met not with forceful action but with the Bushies coming to their senses and agreeing to talk. Caving, if you will. Ask the North Koreans or the Iranians. They keep putting the word out about what they'll do, but in the end if you stand your ground you find they are willing to compromise. Too bad the Democrats will never experience this.
In another day, after such a resounding defeat, a man of honor would move over and allow someone else to try their hand at confronting the opposition, as they instinctively knew they had lost the power to effect change. Not this day. There's a new breed in Washington, DC today that hangs on for dear life no matter how egregious their behavior or shameful their humiliation. It’s time to move over Harry.
Ask Jim Webb, he’ll show you the way.
