I missed Olbermann last night, but I read his special commentary this morning in which he observes that our Dems betrayed us and now own this war too. Then I watched the rerun of yesterday's Daily show, in which John Stewart calls our Dems pussies.
These two responses, obviously, are the new narrative. It has a familiar taste, doesn't it? It brings back that special feeling of when Congress handed over its right to declare war to the President. Of when they all lined up to sign the Patriot Act.
I admire John Kerry, but the pep talk is ringing a little hollow just now. I admire Russ Feingold even more, but his claim that "This is George Bush's war," has lost validity. It is more than a step backwards. It is a reaffirmation that the Democratic leadership lacks the courage of our convictions. I had finally begun to believe things had changed.
