Today I registered for YearlyKos. Why today? Because the rate goes up in a few hours.
But more important, why YearlyKos?
Because I was at the first YearlyKos. Because I was proud to be at the inaugural event that demonstrated the power of the netroots. Because I want to demonstrate to every Democrat that my views, our views have been taken for granted for far too long.
And because Gina Cooper is the bomb.
At YearlyKos ’06 I met hundreds of Kossacks who care deeply about our country. Kossacks who are fed up with watching our party take us for granted while they eat lobbyist’s steaks and vote against the rank and file who put them there.
At YearlyKos ’06 I realized the power of the netroots. It isn’t our clever writing. It isn’t our ability to deliver tens of thousands of dollars to ActBlue candidates.
It’s our commitment to our values. Values that have too long been sacrificed by our leaders.
When I watched Eric Massa speak I knew that something was happening. I understood that this wasn’t just a political convention, but a coalescing point for all of us who are frustrated and furious with the flotsam Washington has been producing.
So I will be at YK ’07, because nowhere else will my values be understood. Nowhere else will I get to meet people who have been working harder that I to resist the ugliness of the Repubicans. Nowhere else will I have a change to tell the Democratic candidates for President that they can no longer just wink and nod in my direction and expect my vote, but that they must recognize my beliefs.
And I’ll be at YearlyKos because I want a fucking chocolate fountain.
Edit: And by the way, the price goes up tomorrow, so recommend this to encourage the slackers.
