AL Gore, at a booksigning in his own neighborhood in Nashville yesterday, and talking to a reporter from the Tennessean, gave what I thought was his most heartfelt and honest assessment of his desire to run for President.
And it's not encouraging.
Gore feels like he could serve in other ways. He told a reporter from the paper he worked for in the past...
"But I don't want anyone to interpret that answer as throwing a little red meat out for speculation," he said during an interview before his book signing for The Assault on Reason at Davis-Kidd Booksellers. "I am just being candid. No, I have not. But I don't expect to get into this race. I have given the reasons why. I strongly prefer to serve in other ways.
Gore probably feels like he has more influence over the 'Global Warming' issue than anyone. And 'Global Warming' is obviously the most important issue facing the world today, even more so than the 'War on Terror". The global and historical consequences of world-wide, human-caused climate change will be irreversible and devastating to the human race on a scale we cannot begin to imagine.
If there is any ego involved in the decision, and I don't believe there is, future historians will remember much more kindly those who lead the fight aginst climate change much more so than those who invade small countries for more oil.
He seems to have let his guard down in this talk to his neighbors and old friends and revealed his honest thoughts on the subject of running. Probably not going to happen!
