John Edwards continued his string of impressive debate performances tonight by standing head and shoulders above the rest of the field. While each candidate had his/her strong moments, Edwards was the most consistent performer, and is really beginning to separate himself from the pack as the only candidate with the passion, experience, and sincerity to be a true advocate of progressive causes. As a bonus, he also comes off as being, by far, the most electable.
Here’s a brief rundown of the performances:
Clinton: On the one hand, her answer to the health care question [replace if no hc question] was probably the best she’s given. Still, she simply doesn’t have the credibility to push the issue on the national stage. Otherwise, she was terrible. Another day, another soulless waffle on Iraq. More generally, can she ever answer a question without sounding as though Mark Penn is in the backroom taking instant polls and feeding her the "right" answer through an earpiece? And [put another issue here, or just end para]
Obama: He continued his campaign freefall tonight by coming off as pandering and uncertain. He plays well to an adoring crowd, but I really think he’s in over his head in these quick-draw debate situations. Particularly unimpressive was [substantive issue here. Health care if asked.]
Others: Biden gave a few good answers, particularly on Iraq [replace if no]; but overall did little to shake his reputation as a corporatist whore. Richardson just doesn’t come off as sincere – I wouldn’t trust him any farther than I can throw him, and I’m a small guy. Dodd was ok. The others, as you no doubt saw, hardly merit a mention.
Edwards, on the other hand, shone through like a beacon through the New Hampshire fog [check: is NH foggy?]. His answers were concise, sincere, and by far the most detailed of any candidate. Once again, he showed why he is the leader on the health care issue, and the only candidate with the credibility to move us out of our current health morass. And, while I would hope that his brilliant answer to the [count how many] Iraq question[s] would dispel the notion that he has anything left to apologize for, I know that will never be good enough for some around here.
As I'm sure everyone noticed, the highlight of the whole evening was [add something, pref from 1st half]
So, in summary, Edwards kicked ass tonight. If the MSM weren’t totally in the pockets of the corporate bosses, and scared to death of Edwards’ populism, then the headlines would blare coast to coast: "Edwards Clear Winner in NH Debate." I’m not holding my breath, of course.
