Am I the only one disgusted by that contrived show last night -- the "Democratic Debate"? CNN imposed a question-and-answer format, avoiding real debate, then asked one irrelevant, media-think question after another ("If you had a chance to kill Osama bin Laden, but knew that it would involve the deaths of innocent civilians, would you do it?" "What's your definition of 'rich'?") Clinton finally spoke out against "hypotheticals" and got applauded for it, but for the most part these "candidates" put up with it. At the start, Blitzer announced that the participants would not be subjected to the indignity of time's-up buzzers as the Republicans were on Fox, then proceeded to chivvy everyone personally when their time was up. Then he and Cooper patted each other on the back when it was over, for a great format and a job well done. The candidates behaved like obedient children at the school pageant. If one of them wants to "break out of the pack", refusing to participate in another farce like this one would be a good start.
